Another suggestion -- del.icio.us is also a good method of keeping track of lists you'd like to follow, as it has a tagging feature so you can bookmark and tag lists with the specific items that you would like to give. Finally, the memories feature is a great way to keep track of wishlists on LiveJournal itself.

As of November 24, 2007, the practice of commenting on someone's wishlist with a link to your own list or otherwise soliciting traffic to your own wishlist in the community is banned, unless the OP (original poster) has explicitly asked for a link to your wishlist. This is both because the moderators feel that this practice has gotten out of hand, and because we have had a number of complaints from users themselves. Bottom line is that it's unfair, and above all else we want to keep the community fair so everyone can have a good time with as little stress as possible.
If you post with a link to your own wishlist, your comment will either be screened or deleted, and you will receive a warning. If your comment is screened or deleted, you may re-post your comment without the link. Those of you planning on sending or requesting cards for soldiers, should know that due to security issues, USPS won't accept the mail unless it is addressed to a specific soldier (snopes.com did an article about this here. Another solution to contact soldiers is mentioned here.

Go Through Older Lists


Sometimes, especially, later in the season, a lot of the older lists get forgotten.  Granting wishes from these lists could really make the giftees day, especially if they haven't had many wishes granted.  Visiting the archives is a great way not only to find a specific user, but to look for posts that have not received many comments, which probably means the poster has not had very many wishes granted.

If someone asks for Music or MP3 files and you want to send them files via MegaUpload/YouSendIt/SendSpace/etc., please screen these comments from view from the public (the OP must do this), or send the links directly to the OP (original poster) themselves via contact information or comments on their own journal. File Sharing is illegal in most cases, and thus we do not condone it. So if you engage in it, please be as discrete as you can.

This will generate a master list which you can use your browser's "find" feature (often ctrl + F, or cmd + F on macs) to find a username.

Tagging is a quick way for others to be able to find your wishlist, and also makes it easier for you to browse through wishes other people have made. There are tags for the sorts of wishes you've made, where you're from, which holiday you celebrate, when you posted your wishlist, and what the first letter of your username is.
a "Links" section of links on the left and more tags on the left. right. By adding tags you can make your wishlist accessible to others when they choose to browse the wishlists using the various tags. All it takes is a few mouse clicks and you can add your wishlist too.
