Because this is such a huge community, we need to have some rules and regulations on proper conduct. Here's a list of issues that have come up frequently that we feel need to be officially addressed. Please check back here frequently as this list will be updated as we make mod posts.
Mod Posts
Mod posts are sporadically put up which contain rules, updates and reminders. It's everyone's responsibility to keep themselves informed by reading these mod posts and this wiki and to abide by these rules.
Posting to the Community
Please note that, with the exception of mod posts, only wishlists are allowed to be posted in this community. To thank another member for a gift, we recommend that you post in the holiday_thanks community.
Soliciting in comments for your own wishlist
The practice of commenting on someone's wishlist with a link to your own list or otherwise soliciting traffic to your own wishlist in the community is banned, unless the OP (original poster) has explicitly asked for a link to your wishlist. In the past, we have had a number of complaints from users that this practice has gotten out of hand and we agree. Bottom line is that it's unfair, and above all else we want to keep the community fair so everyone can have a good time with as little stress as possible.
If you post with a link to your own wishlist, your comment will either be screened or deleted, and you will receive a warning. If your comment is screened or deleted, you may re-post your comment without the link. Repeat offenders will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
"Updating" your wishlist
In the past, people have "updated" their wishlists as they've received items, which effectively results in them having posted more than 10 wishes. Changing items on your list is forbidden, and if we have proof that you have done so (without the permission of the moderators), you will be warned; repeat offenses may result in your wishlist being deleted. You are allowed to edit your post in order to cross off items that you've received or to change your contact information.
Deleting Comments
Because people often use the number of comments a wishlist has received as an indicator of the amount of attention that list has been given, please do not delete or screen comments containing offers of items. Deleting such comments can be seen as having ulterior motives and detracts from the community's atmosphere. If caught doing this, you will be warned.
Music and MP3s
If you are requesting MP3s as one of your wishes, please friends lock your post to the community. We do not condone file sharing. If you have any questions, please contact a moderator.
Contacting the Moderators
If you have a suggestion, comment, or question for the moderators, leave a comment on a mod post or e-mail your comment directly to wishlist.project (at) gmail (dot) com. Moderators are not to be contacted through their personal livejournals.
Moderators are under no obligation to respond to comments left in their personal livejournals and are permitted to delete such comments without warning. The only way to guarantee that your suggestion/comment/question will be heard by the moderators is to comment on a mod post or e-mail. Even if you don't receive an immediate response, each one of these will be read.
Rule Violations
Violations of any of the rules posted in this wiki or in mod posts may result in a "strike". When a member receives three "strikes", he or she will be banned. We will do our best to be fair, but may make judgment calls on individual incidents. Prior results are not indicative of future outcomes.
Please note that this community has over 3,000 members, and it is difficult to enforce every rule all the time. If you happen to be caught violating a rule and you receive a strike or your offending comment is screened or deleted, it is not personal, so please do not take it as such. But you are responsible for checking the mod posts (which can be easily found by using the tags) and making sure you abide by community rules.
Your mods are listed on the community's userinfo page. The moderators work as a team, and discuss issues amongst themselves before dealing with them through a mod post or a message to an individual member. Therefore, if any one of them asks you to do something, it effectively comes from the entire group, and your cooperation is appreciated.
