In 2007, a sibling community to the LiveJournal community was created for use on InsaneJournal. This was related to the LiveJournal/Six Apart controversy which occurred when a number of communities, fic authors, and fanartists in the Harry Potter fandom were permenantly suspended without warning because Six Apart deemed their content in violation of the Terms of Service. This prompted a substantial migration to other journaling sites including InsaneJournal, GreatestJournal, and JournalFen among others. Due to the large percentage of the population that migrated to InsaneJournal, we decided to create the sibling community there. Currently the two communities are run as independent entities, though some of the moderators overlap.

The InsaneJournal community also permits the posting of wishlists containing "mature" content (i.e. mature fic or fanart, excluding actual pornography) as long as it is placed under an LJ-cut tag, whereas the LiveJournal community does not.

Anyone is permitted to participate in both the InsaneJournal and LiveJournal communities.
