1. When you come across a wishlist that contains a wish you would like to grant, please bookmark that wishlist.
There are a variety of methods to accomplish this, such as LiveJournal's "memories" feature, your own browser bookmarks, del.icio.us, mag.nolia.com, or good old fashioned pen and paper. We don't allow people to post asking "Who was the person who wanted the 'Las Vegas' shotglass?" or "Who wanted the gift certificate to 'Outback Steakhouse'?" because there are just far too many of that type of posts. Really. There are. Plus, even if we did allow them through, anyone could respond even if they weren't the original intended recipeint. It is your responsibility to keep track of wishes that you would like to grant. If you do lose track of your giftee's wishlist, you can try searching the community, using community tags, checking the date range in which you think the post might have been made, or searching your e-mail account (Yahoo and Gmail and others all allow you to do this) for keywords that might appear in comment exchanges you may have made. You can also start a thread in an open post, but please do all that you can to keep track of your giftees first.
2. When sending used items, please make sure they're in good condition unless otherwise stated.
If someone posts a list of used book requests stating that any and all conditions are perfectly fine, that's okay. But otherwise, please don't think that this community is a way to get rid of your old dingy stuff. If you have an old book that is missing a cover, or a DVD that skips so much you don't watch it anymore, either contact the recipient to ask if this condition is okay or consider buying a new or gently used item instead.
While we greatly encourage the swapping of used items, please remember that this is a gift-giving community and not freecycle.
3. When mailing your items, please package them properly and check local regulations.
Please use sturdy mailing supplies, bubble wrap, tissue paper, packing tape, etc. accordingly if your item requires it. Also consider typing up mailing labels to securely tape to your packages rather than hand writing them, as this will help ensure that your package reaches the proper destination. If you're mailing CDs in jewel cases, please consider using cellophane tape to ensure that they do not open and become scratched in transit (this has happened to me, personally.) If you're mailing fragile items, please use bubblewrap or packing peanuts if appropriate. If you are mailing foodstuffs or liquids, please consult your local postal regulations to see if this is allowed. Also, please remember if sending items internationally to look up customs regulations about questionable items.
4. No money is to be exchanged in connection with items distributed through this community.
Again, this is not a garage sale, craigslist, or eBay. If you are selling something, please use another site. We will investigate reports of abuse of this community.
